Salvation?

You reach a dead end, and the two monsters are still hot on your trail. Your life starts to flash before your eyes, but as if by divine intervention, a teacher opens the door to her classroom and interrupts the chase. "Jason! Richard!" she shouts; "what is the meaning of this?"

Richard sits panting while Jason tries to explain. "Mrs. Oakley," he begins, "that's not Mickey we're chasing. It's an impostor, and a human being, as well! See for yourself."

Mrs. Oakley comes out into the hallway and sniffs the air around you. "He does smell suspicious," she remarks; "but that's no excuse to be racing in the halls. You should have turned him in to the office."

Richard speaks up. "He wouldn't coöperate, though! Do you mean that we should have risked letting him escape?" He sounds funny talking through a muzzle, his voice deep and gravelly. The weight of his words keeps your laughter in check, though, and you fear even the teacher who saved you moments ago.

"He wouldn't have gotten far," she muses. "Now, both of you shift back and take Mickey, or whoever this is, to the office. Mr. Wilkins will deal with him and either call the police or send him down to the cafeteria."

The cafeteria? You hope that a common punishment is wiping off tables, because the alternative is too hideous to consider. Jason and Richard shift back, their shirts and pants torn in several places. They glare at you, and Richard grabs you suddenly by the collar. "You won't get away this time," promises Richard.
