As you grasp the key, a little light bulb goes on overhead. "What do you mean, 'not during the past month or so'?" you ask Fred.

Fred hems and haws. "Well, there was that little tussle with the coyote, but that's basically ancient history by now." He stiffens. "I don't want to talk about it."
