The Proverbial Dark and Stormy Night

You are about to settle on a rerun of "Nova" when a banging on the door startles you. Quick as a flash, you run to the door and try to look through the peephole. There is none, so you cross your fingers and open it. In falls Eric, sopping wet and near hysterics.

"What happened?" you shout, sensing that he is more than just wet.

Eric sputters and thrusts off his dripping raincoat before managing a response. "On the way over, I had a small accident," he begins. "Visibility was bad, and the roads were slick. It was just a fender-bender, though, so the insurance will cover it. Should, at least."

You breathe a sigh of relief. "I thought that you were hurt," you explain.

"I am," he replies, turning to reveal his bloodied arm. "Joey, there's a watchdog or something out front, and it was determined to keep me away from here. I shudder to think what it might have done, if not for my karate skills."
